Troop 1214

Yellowstone High Adventure Outpost HA Trip – 17-27 June 2026

This summer the Troop sent three crews out to two different High Adventure camps – Yellowstone High Adventure Outpost in Wyoming and BSA Sea Base in Florida.  The first crew to depart went to Wyoming and stayed at Camp Buffalo Bill run by the Adventure West Council.  The crew, led by two stalwart Scouters, flew out of BWI and headed to Wyoming right after school let out for the summer.  The plan was to add a couple of days in Yellowstone National Park to the itinerary provided by the Council run high adventure base.  The Scouts wanted to make the most out of their trip that included bouldering, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and day hikes in the beautiful Wyoming vistas.

The crew stared out their adventures in Yellowstone NP for the first couple of days, where they experienced Old Faithful’s eruption, passed the continental divide, saw many beautiful geyser basins, smelled some Sulphur mud volcanos and got a close-up view of a bison at camp.  Leave no trace didn’t apply to the animals that visited camp – luckily their traces weren’t on any of the Scouts or their gear! Standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is cool, but watching a geyser erupt right in front of you at Norris Basin? Absolute next level.  The Scouts were living their absolute best lives, spotting wildlife, and exploring sights most people only get to see on postcards! Off to Camp Buffalo Bill for the YHAO itinerary next.

Our scouts are reaching new heights in Wyoming, literally! The boys took on a mountain rock climb, showing determination, teamwork, and perseverance as they made their way to the summit. Way to go, Troop 1214!  They also got to experience bouldering, with proper safety gear of course as part of their itinerary. The next day they were able to cheer on cowboys in Cody, Wyoming.  Our Scouts got a front-row seat to the Wild West at the rodeo, where the horses were bucking, the cowboys were flying, and the excitement never let up. Safe to say it was a bucking good time!

Unfortunately, the water levels were low on the rivers in Wyoming which did not make for ideal conditions for whitewater rafting.  However, the Scouts were still able to get a day on the water.  Enough to whet their whistle for more whitewater adventures on next year’s Troop calendar!  They were worn out but had great stories to tell their parents when they returned at the end of the month!  #troop1214 #riverhawkdistrict #baltimoreareacouncil #yellowstonenationalpark #scoutmein
