Every year the Troop celebrates Thanksgiving on our November camping trip, where we forego dining as Patrols, and we all join together in a meal prepared by the Scouts. The last few years we have started a new tradition of including families in this celebration of thanks. The troop invited parents and siblings for a Thanksgiving feast during the camping trip at Downs Park, where the Wcouts took charge of the main course — Teriyaki Chicken, Pineapple Chicken, and rice. To everyone’s pleasant surprise, it tasted really good. A few parents are now wondering if we can outsource weeknight dinners.
Dessert made its entrance in the form of Dutch-oven pies, lovingly (and slowly… so very slowly) baked over hot coals. Parents brought sides and extra desserts to round out the feast — teamwork at its finest. The Scouts showcased how the Patrols clean up after meals, including how we wash dishes. The Troop and their families wrapped up the night with campfire skits, songs, and jokes — with a solid mix of groans and genuine laughs. It was a wonderful evening all around, filled with good food, lots of laughter, and a very grateful group of parents who didn’t have to cook or clean
