Each year, the Troop takes a Saturday hike in the area in lieu of a camping trip in February. On 8 February, the Troop visited nearby Mount Vernon in Alexandria, Virginia where the Troop hiked the historic site’s grounds while learning about our nation’s first President. The Troop was joined by some of the Scouts from Troop 771 and several parents, including some that had not participated in a Troop hike before. Upon arrival at Mount Vernon, the Scouts enjoyed a virtual tour before embarking on a brisk orienteering hike across the grounds in order to meet some rank requirements. After lunch, the Troops participated in a wreath laying ceremony at Washington’s tomb before touring the mansion and its immediate grounds. The Troops loaded back up and headed back to the Elks in the afternoon after a great hike!
